ATC is pleased to announce the upcoming release of two new 12 “active subwoofers, designed to deliver the exceptional performance required by audio professionals. Their performance and features make them ideal for stereo, multi-channel surround and immersive audio formats such as Dolby Atmos.

There are two versions of the subwoofer:

SCS70 Pro
SCS70iW Pro, optimized for flush or wall mounting

The subwoofers, which carry on ATC’s proven philosophy, are equipped with a new driver, developed by ATC’s research and development team and optimized for reproduction of the lowest four octaves of the audio band.

SCS70 Pro subwoofers offer extended low frequency response without resorting to electronic equalization, unlike many subwoofers available today. Instead, the most elegant combination of exceptional transducer design and slightly larger cabinet volume is used. The simplicity of this approach reduces phase shift and group delay, favoring integration of the subwoofer with partner monitor speakers. Ultimately, it offers the listener a more balanced and coherent experience, extending the low-frequency response without masking detail or changing the tonal character of the low-mid range.

With 34 years of experience in amplifier design and development, ATC’s team of electronics engineers have created a completely new amplifier for these two new subwoofers. The 300W Class AB design is hand built by ATC at their UK headquarters and fine-tuned to the requirements of the driver unit, to achieve fast, dynamic bass with minimal colouration. The two balanced inputs provide connectivity suitable for stereo and multichannel / immersive audio systems, while the two balanced outputs allow you to connect monitor speakers or daisy-chain multiple subwoofers. The low pass filters are analog, 4th order Linkwitz-Riley and the filter frequency options ensure optimal integration with a wide range of studio monitors. There is also an 80 Hz low pass and an “off” option. A polarity switch and continuously variable phase adjustment allow you to further optimize the subwoofer crossover, while a stepped attenuator with a range of 21 dB ensures precise level consistency.

SCS70iW Pro

Integrating active subwoofers designed to work “free-standing” into control rooms designed for in-wall or in-wall monitoring can be a challenge, but the SCS70iW Pro (In-Wall) is dedicated to this application, simplifying installation and ensuring optimal performance. Thanks to the lower cabinet and recessed input connector panel, it maximizes floor space, while the remotely mounted 7U / 19 “R1-300 Pro amplifier gives the user the flexibility to install the amplifier on the ground. wall near the subwoofer, in a rack in the control room, or in an engine room. The connection between the wall subwoofer and the remote amplifier is via an NL4 speaker cable and a 5-pin XLR cable (sold separately and available in different lengths).

The output of the SCS70 Pro can be muted via a single footswitch connected to the ¼ “/ 6.35mm jack mute input. Other subwoofers can be muted using the same footswitch, connected via the” Thru jack. “silencing.

The size and performance of the SCS70 Pro make it the ideal partner for a wide range of ATC speakers for studio monitoring, including SCM12 Pro, SCM20A Pro, SCM25A Pro, SCM45A Pro and SCM50A Pro. Multiple subwoofers can be used. to maximize performance, to fill larger rooms and also in combination with larger speaker models.

Surround and Immersive Audio formats can be particularly demanding with subwoofers, and these two new designs both offer exceptional clarity at higher SPL levels. It is recommended that the Dolby Audio Room Design Tool (DARDT) be used to aid in the design of ATC monitoring systems for Dolby Atmos, ensuring that format guidelines are adhered to and the best possible performance is achieved.

Designed and engineered with a focus on resolution and integration, the SCS70 and SCS70iW Pro offer users an additional extension of the low frequencies and dynamic range, without compromising the balance in the high bass and treble. of the sound range.
