Elettroformati is an industry leading audio production company based in Milan, Italy, who have successfully channelled their passion for all things sound into a well established and versatile business operation. Founded in 1966, the company specialises in vinyl cutting and pressing, sound restoration and more recently, Dolby Atmos mastering.
Throughout the evolution of various recording formats and media, Eletroformatti has consistently adapted to the ever-changing sonic landscape; from the age of CD and DVD, to digital and beyond. Thanks to a tenacious and forward-thinking business ethos, they have been able to overcome the various challenges and hurdles that the evolving market has thrown up over the years, and in 2015 they consolidated and rebranded as Vinyl Rebirth.
Always looking to adopt the latest technological developments, Elettroformat has now invested in a state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos format, creating a brand new mix studio dedicated to immersive audio.
Both Alessandro Cutolo, CEO and founder of the company, and Monica Palma, are convinced that immersive audio is set to change the way we interact and listen to music, with Dolby Atmos the format that record companies will be implementing for many years to come.
Elettroformati chooses PMC
Elettroformati’s new Dolby Atmos studio was designed and built thanks to the collaboration between Funky Junk and Studio Sound Service di Donato Masci.
After a careful and thorough analysis of market needs and precise assessment of ever-demanding customer requirements, leading equipment from the likes of PMC and Avid were chosen for their uncompromising sound quality and versatile feature-sets.
The Dolby Atmos system installed is a 7.1.4 configuration with 7 monitors on the horizontal plane, 4 overhead monitors and 1 LFE channel. The setup includes:
- L/C/R with PMC IB1S AIII
- Surround and overhead PMC Ci65
- LFE Meyer Sound Amie-Sub
- Linea Research power amplifiers
- Dolby RMU external
This setup guarantees perfect compliance with Dolby standards and delivers a defined and well-articulated sound that allows accurate positioning of all elements within the immersive sound stage.
Avid and immersive audio
The Avid S4 control surface is the true centre of operations in the mix, incorporating all the features needed to tackle a Dolby Atmos production, including the immersive panner: the perfect element for precisely positioning sound objects in the mix.
Elettroformati’s new Dolby Atmos studio has been built without compromise, utilising state-of-the-art technology. PMC monitoring in the control room guarantees a superior listening experience that allows critical decisions to be made with the confidence that what you’re hearing is a linear and precise listening reference. The 7.1.4 listening configuration is perfectly managed by the Avid MTRX system, interfacing all 128 channels defined by the Dolby Atmos standard with the external Dolby Renderer. Thanks to the Avid S4 control surface, the approach to mixing is streamlined and focused, allowing them to make light work of even the most demanding and complex projects.”
